Earned Paid Sick Leave: Urge MD Legislators to Override Hogan Veto

The UU Legislative Ministry of Maryland writes: “With the next session of the Maryland Legislature only a few months away, it’s time to reengage with our legislators. You will recall that last session HB1 – the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act past both the House of Delegates and the Senate, only to be vetoed by Governor Hogan. This session, we need to work for an override of the veto.

HB 1 provides earned sick leave to all Marylanders employed in businesses of 15 or more employees and provide the right to take unpaid sick leave to Marylanders who work for businesses with less than 15 employees.”

Please contact your state delegate and senator today to urge them to override Governor Hogan’s veto of HB1. Visit http://mdelect.net/ to locate and contact your legislators.

Before contacting your state legislators to urge override of Gov. Hogan’s veto of HB1, it will help to know that the Democrats representing legislative districts 12 and 13 all voted for the bill on passage and the Republicans representing Senate LD9 (Gail Bates), delegate district 9A (Trent Kittleman and Warren MIller), and delegate district 9B (Bob Flanagan) all voted against it.
