Class Description: Quest, A Coming of Age Year (ages 14-15)
Our Quest program focuses on exploring personal values, beliefs, and identity, and understanding what it means to “come of age” as a Unitarian Universalist. Primary goals are: to come to a personal understanding of what to be a spiritual person; to articulate a statement of faith; to create bonds within a positive peer group; and to grow in community within the larger congregation and the denomination. The components subject areas include the foundational beliefs of Unitarian Universalism and the history of our movement, the structure and activities of denominational and congregational life, participation in worship and other spiritual practices, and personal spiritual development.
One Sunday a month the class attends the 9:00 service together and then meets until 12 p.m. The other Sundays the class meets on Sunday evenings concurrently with the other youth classes. Other events may include field trips, an overnight, a bonfire, fundraising, and participation in some congregational or denominational social events. The program culminates in a train trip to Boston for a UU Heritage Tour during Spring Break, a Coming of Age Sunday service and ceremony as a rite of passage in our congregation.
