Summer Camps

For the past three years UUCC has been home to Hogwarts Summer Camp - Columbia Branch.  Some of our classes have been Potions, Transfiguration, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Quidditch, Divination, History of Magic, Charms and Care of Magical Creatures We have learned about our native plants in Herbology, and met "magical" animals from The Scales and Tales program.  In our Care of Muggles class we collected food for the Maryland Food Bank and made blankets for Project Linus.  The week opens with a trip to Diagon Alley for supplies for the week and closes with an awards ceremony in the Great Hall.

There are endless opportunities to find fellowship with UUs from across the country at a variety of summer camps and conferences.  For more information, see The Council of Unitarian Universalist Camps and Conferences. Click here for website.

Read below for testimonials from UUCC members who attend UU camps and conferences.

“Our family has been going to Star Island in New Hampshire for 20 years. It has proven to be just what we needed and has become our “spirit’s home”.  Lots of great experiences, close friends, and fond memories for only spending one week there per summer.”

"SUUSI, the Southeast Unitarian Universalist Summer Institute, is a one week retreat held annually in southwest Virginia in July.  The community of people (approximately 1,000 UU's and like-minded individuals) and variety of activities & workshops (from outdoor sports & physical activities to worship &s piritual activities) promote a unique experience for everyone who attends.  Each person picks and chooses the activities they wish.  I highly recommend this annual retreat to anyone who wants to try a wonderful week of socialization, fun, and spiritual growth in a safe, friendly atmosphere.  Since 1990 I have attended 15 SUUSI's.  I plan to attend a lot more in my future!"

"My teens and I have attended the Unitarian Universalist Mid-Atlantic Conference (UUMAC) for around 10 years. It is the top summer attraction in our busy schedule. We spend time with old friends, and make new friends. My kids have had a chance to grow up with many UU friends from around the region. It has really helped my kids form their individual UU identities. They've had lots of leadership opportunities and chances to explore new experiences in a stimulating, fun and safe environment. The intergen aspect is great for all ages. A FUN and enriching and spiritual week."
