Documentary Sept. 17th, 7 pm;  Follow-up Trip  to Sanctuary Planned

Have you ever wondered about the “thinking and feeling” side of animals that we all too often just view as food?  Then come to a showing of the documentary “The Emotional World of Farm Animals” sponsored by UUCC ‘Creature Connection’ and Lifespan Growth and Learning on Friday, September 17th, at 7pm.   Explore with us the rich ancestry and recently more advanced understanding of these curious and intelligent animals!

This documentary was aired on PBS a few years ago and is suitable for all ages.  A discussion will follow the showing and light refreshments will be available.  A trip to a local sanctuary for farm animals,, Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary,  is also planned for Sunday, September 26th for those who are interested in learning more and in seeing the animals up close.

Stay tuned for more details on the sanctuary trip!

This month’s Second Sunday Outreach Offering (SSOO) on September 12 will benefit the UUSC-UUA Joint Pakistan Flood Relief Fund.   For more information, go to www.uusc.org or check the details in Sunday’s Order of Service.

Previous Second Sunday Outreach Offerings are outlined below.  Thank you for your continued generosity and support to these worthy causes.   In 2010 alone, UUCC members have raised nearly $13k for SSOO recipients.  Reverend Paige Getty and the Social Action Council continue to receive many expressions of heartfelt thanks from these organizations (and pleas for additional, sustained help on an annual basis).  If you’d like to suggest an organization to benefit from an SSOO, please email Bill Harris at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Did you know that the LGL Office has a library from which all of our members and friends may borrow?  Topics include spirituality, prayers, poems and meditations, parenting, education, the bible and world religions, and UU history. Two recent additions were donated to the library from the UUCC bookstore: Been in the Storm So Long, and Black Pioneers in a White Denomination, by Mark Morrison Reed. Please feel free to stop in to browse, and check out a book anytime!  Simply sign-out on the clipboard provided, and plan to return the book when you are finished or after one month.  If the book has been out for more than a month, you will receive a friendly reminder.
