Started at UUCC in 2002 under the leadership of Interim Minister, Richard Nugent, our small group ministry began as one “Intimacy and Ultimacy” group and has grown to eight or more “Reflection Groups.” More than 300 persons in our congregation have been in at least one group, and many continue year after year.
Small Group Ministry
Known in UU circles by many names (such as Covenant Groups or Chalice Circles), small group ministry has been expanding throughout our denomination for the last decade.
UUCC’s Steering Committee strives to learn about what makes small group ministry most successful. We have attended conferences, hosted an innovator in the field, and networked with other UU congregations. We periodically ask for feedback from participants and facilitators and give it careful consideration when deciding to try changes.
In 2011, we tried switching all the groups to meeting once a month. Based on participants’ feedback, in 2014-2015, most groups will meet twice in October in order to form stronger connections in the beginning of the year, and then meet once a month from November through May.
