Take Action: UU Service Committee Urges Senators to Oppose Military Aid to Burma

Please write (email) or call Senators Cardin and Van Hollen to urge them to oppose supporting the Burma military by co-sponsoring Senate Amendment 607.  In the past two weeks, a scorched earth offensive by the Burmese military has forced 270,000 Rohingya over the border into Bangladesh and destroyed their homes and villages.  The United States must act to stop the systematic brutality the Burmese army is inflicting on the Rohingya. At the very least, it should not make the situation worse. However, that is what will happen if the Senate passes the current version of the NDAA. Senate Amendment 607 will stop the expansion of U.S. military support to Burma. The U.S. government’s message to Burma’s military must be clear: There can be no further engagement or assistance until the government of Burma ends abuses and demonstrates a real commitment to accountability and reconciliation. Thank you for your consideration.
