UU Legislative Ministry of Maryland: How You Can Help

UULM-MD writes “The Maryland General Assembly is now in session. Now, more than ever, UU values are needed in the public square. In light of the recent national elections, we must turn our attention to Maryland, which continues to be governed by lawmakers who have enacted progressive laws and can be convinced to support our efforts to ensure personal self-determination, further worker rights, mitigate climate change, and reform the state criminal justice system. These are matters where states can and should take action and lead the way forward, especially if the federal government will not. We must join together and seize opportunities to further bend the arc of the universe toward justice. Here’s how you can help:

  • Register for our Legislative Kick-off on Saturday, January 20 from 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM, with keynote by the Delegate Cheryl D. Glenn, Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland. ·
  • Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
  • Check out events, like the ones included in this e-blast, from UULM-MD and our coalition partners.

Thank you for your continued support of UULM-MD. Together, we can make an impact.”

Mission accomplished on override of the veto of last year’s paid sick leave bill (HB1). Yesterday’s vote in the House was 88-52 (three votes more than needed). Today’s vote in the Senate was 30-17 (one vote more than needed. Onward to the rest of the UULM-MD agenda.
