April 2021 Board Meeting Highlights

In an effort to keep the congregation in the loop on what develops during Board Meetings, your Board of Trustees provides updates following their monthly meeting. Please note that this account does not constitute the minutes of the meeting, which will be subject to the Board’s consideration and approval at the Board of Trustees’ next meeting in May.

Board meetings occur on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm (EDT) on Zoom and are open to the public. You are welcome to attend to listen in, and we encourage you to stay connected to our work and progress through these monthly updates.

Updates & Highlights from the April Board Meeting:

This month the Board finished reading and discussing Juana Bordas’ book Salsa, Soul, and Spirit: Leadership for a Multicultural Age. Each month, over the last year, the Board has engaged in a variety of exercises and reflections based on leadership lessons and traditions from Latinx, Black, and American Indian communities. This final exercise focused on leading in our multicultural age.

Thanks to those who participated in the UUCC Ends Survey! An overview of the pilot survey results may be viewed here, and potential plans for another survey next fall will be posted soon. Only 58 people responded and a number of them cited how the pandemic complicated their responses.

The Board approved a motion supporting the Ordination of Jen Raffensperger, in partnership with the UU Congregation of Frederick.  The ordination endorsement will be added as an agenda item for Congregation’s consideration at the annual meeting.

This year’s Congregational Annual Meeting will be Sunday, June 6, and the Board is busy preparing the agenda, assigning roles and drafting a Good Governance post with more details and a call for any new business you might want to have considered.

Unfortunately, despite the hard work by our pledge team; thus far, the pledge drive is significantly short of what is needed to cover our commitments. Many pledge units have yet to make a pledge and others have reduced their donations. The Board will be sending out a general appeal to support our Congregational needs and priorities augmented with personal outreach to those who haven’t pledged yet. Without a significant increase in donations, UUCC’s ability to provide the community experience, programming, and services we’ve committed to will be severely reduced.
