Sunday Morning Happenings

This past Sunday morning in our children’s classroom, we began exploring Article II. We gathered and spent some time answering the question: What exactly is Article II? (To brush up, find information and resources here: https://uucolumbia.net/article-ii/.)

We then turned our attention and conversation to the value of equity and were excited to hear how much knowledge our kids already had on the topic! After our discussion, we played a game that helped us embody equity. Our students were divided into two teams and tasked with building a city… however, one team had unlimited resources while the other team’s resources were limited. As you might imagine, this inspired a healthy debate amongst our students!

We then began the process of creating our Article II mobiles that were taken home and will be added to over the coming weeks. Our students were also given cards to take home with questions about equity that the whole family can wonder about together.

Many thanks to our first-time congregant volunteer Carol Hoyas and the parents in the room who helped us get this ambitious project off the ground, and to staff member Hannah Nelson for designing our question cards.

Check us out at the Engagement Fair on Sunday, September 22

On Sunday, September 22 immediately following service we hope that you will come check out our table at the engagement fair in Sanctuary B. There, you will find information about all of the ways you and/or your family can be involved in religious education at UUCC, get a look at our latest Sunday morning project, Article II mobiles, and have a chance to add to our Living Altar Cloth. Don’t forget to pick up a pocket mandala and a piece of sidewalk chalk!

K/Grade 1 Our Whole Lives (OWL) Update

This past Sunday, our K/1 Our Whole Lives (OWL) families began their journey. We have 8 students in the class, including 3 newcomers to our congregation!

A very special thank you to our OWL orientation team Jenny Afkinich, Erin Cutts, and Miriam Pokharel-Wood who ensured that the day ran smoothly and gave our families the information they needed to have a successful experience and to the parents/guardians of our students for their engaged participation. We wish you all well in OWL this fall! 🦉
