In the Unitarian Universalist faith, the power to make someone a minister lies in the hands of the congregation. At this Special Meeting, called by the Board of Trustees, the congregation will have the opportunity to vote on the ordination of Dr. Laura Solomon.
Laura has been coming to UUCC since 2013 and joined as a member in 2014. She was an active member for several years before deciding to follow the calling to ministry. Laura recently graduated from Meadville Lombard Theological School with her Master of Divinity and she currently serves as Director of Spiritual Growth at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring. When asked why UUCC is special to her, Laura said, “UUCC is the place where I learned to love community and be loved in community. It is the place where I was able to hear and listen to my call to ministry, and UUCC has supported me in this call again and again. I am so grateful for all I have learned from UUCC, and for the ways the community has shaped me into the person and minister I am today.”
Laura’s relationship with UUCC has prompted her to ask this congregation to ordain her. At its October meeting, the Board of Trustees endorsed this request. At the Special Meeting, the congregation will be asked to vote to ordain Dr. Laura Solomon into UU ministry.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this Special Meeting will be held in a multi-platform format. For those attending worship service in person on December 5, please remain in Sanctuary C. For those attending worship service virtually, please remain in the main worship service Zoom room.
All UUCC Members are welcome and encouraged to attend the meeting. According to our Bylaws, any individual who has been a Member of UUCC for at least sixty days (i.e., as of October 6, 2021) is entitled to vote on this item.
