EV chargers for OBIC?

EV chargers for OBIC?

OBIC, with the support of the UUCC climate team, is currently seeking grants that would pay to install Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers in the OBIC parking lot!

Over the past year, a small team started by confirming the congregational interest and support (80%+) for chargers, and then investigated the feasibility and costs of various configurations. As a result we have developed a baseline configuration (2 dual Level 2 chargers) so that we can apply for grants, with the objective of getting 100% funding for the planning, acquisition, installation, and maintenance of the chargers! Users would still pay for the electricity itself.

In March, OBIC applied for a grant with the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) for 75% of the costs, and in April, we will apply for a Howard County PREP grant for the remaining 25%. The grant decisions will be announced by June or July. If we receive both grants, we would target installation to complete around October 2025.

The charger configuration is still “draft”, and there are several details that will still need to be determined. To that end, we would like to form a small EV Advisory Committee that would help evaluate and make recommendations to OBIC about various options, as well as help with any  ongoing monitoring or support which may arise.

If you have questions or if you’d like to be part of the EV Advisory committee, please contact Ken Crandell: kencrandell1@gmail.com. Thanks!
