UULM-MD will be sponsoring two one-day interactive conferences by and for UU high school youth (interested middle schoolers are welcome) from around Maryland. They want to learn about the state legislative process, discuss and choose which issue(s) they are most passionate about, and plan advocacy for bills relevant to their issue(s) so that Their Voices Can Be Heard!
The first will be Saturday, November 19th from 10-4 at UU Columbia and will include icebreaker activities, short talks by a State senator and a Delegate with UU connections, followed by informal conversation with them over lunch (provided), ending with youth choosing their top issues and creating Action Teams to lead the efforts.
The second, on MLK Day–Monday, January 16th– at UU Annapolis, will be planned by the Action Teams, and likely focus on the issues chosen by the youth in November, with a tour of the state capitol and possibly lobbying their legislators. UULM-MD’s Issue Leads and advocacy software will support these efforts.
