Music

Music

Music is important to congregants at UUCC and we invite you to join us. Our congregation sings. Our Sunday worship services feature keyboard music, offerings by instrumentalists, vocal ensembles, and soloists. You’ll get to hear and learn more about different types of music, including classical, contemporary, jazz, gospel, and folk. We value all musical traditions.

UUCC welcomes Interim Music Director, Bailey Whiteman & Collaborative Pianist, Alexander Dudkin

Bailey Whiteman (she/they)

Bailey Whiteman (she/they) joins UUCC’s staff as Interim Music Director as of July 16, 2026. As Interim Music Director, Bailey directs the choir, coordinates and provides music for our Sunday services, and helps the congregation to consider what is important in congregational music going forward.

Bailey comes to us with more than 15 years of experience as a Unitarian Universalist music and choral director, most recently having served as Interim Music Director at our sibling congregation in Silver Spring, MD. Bailey, an active lay leader before she became a religious professional, is deeply rooted in our UU movement and values, bringing valuable perspective and experience to this transitional period at UUCC.

Alexander Dudkin (he/him)

We are also excited to welcome Alexander Dudkin (he/him) as UUCC’s new collaborative pianist as of August 2026. Alex graduated from the University of Maryland this spring with a Masters in Clarinet Performance. At UMD he was a Woodwind Quintet Fellow and community music school instructor. Alex is a classically trained pianist and has experience in performance and teaching. His undergraduate studies are in clarinet and Russian language and literature.

Chalice Choir

Young adults and adults with a love of music and singing are invited to join us! UUCC’s Chalice Choir typically rehearses and sings in worship September—May and contributes to music services and holiday events. The choir rehearses Thursdays at 7PM in Sanctuary C starting Thursday, August 20, 2026. Join us!

Get Involved

UUCC’s music ministry is led by staff, but at the heart of the program are the many enthusiastic and talented congregants who sing with the choirs, perform during worship services, and support the music ministry in other ways.

Soloists

Welcome, musicians of all kinds, to our broadly-based music ministry. In addition to singing in our Chalice Choir, or playing in one of the ensembles, our musician members can also participate by playing or singing a solo in a service. We encourage musicians of all ages, whether you’re newer or have been around for years, to enrich our services by offering music, in any style and length that’s appropriate to the service, as approved and coordinated by music staff.

Other ways to help out

There are other ways to support our music ministry, such as joining a support team for the Concert Series, helping out with a concert reception, and/or spreading the word about choir rehearsals, music services, and concerts. Musical knowledge not needed, simply a willingness to help out.
