Governance

Governance

UUCC practices Policy-Based Governance. The congregation elects the Board of Trustees, which sets broad goals for the congregation. The Executive Team (Minister and Executive Director), together with the paid and volunteer staff, is responsible for creating and implementing programs to achieve these goals.

How We Function

Governance 101

UUCC’s governance process is based on a form of governance called Policy Governance. UUCC’s particular version is called Policy Based Governance. It’s designed to allow our leaders to be creative, innovative and flexible while giving the congregation its voice.

Board of Trustees

The Board acts on behalf of the membership of UUCC. It sees that the congregation achieves the goals of its mission statement and the Board’s Ends policies with appropriate use of its resources. The Board also sees that unacceptable actions and situations as defined in the bylaws and in its policies are avoided.

UUCC’s Five Incubator Budgets

In 2019, the UUCC Board of Trustees endorsed a proposal by the Executive Team to re-organize the congregation’s staffing and budget to better align with the formal (Mission and Ends) and informal visions for who and how UUCC intends to serve its community within and beyond the membership of the congregation. When our vision is fully realized, we will demonstrate that UUCC matters— not only to 300 families, but to the whole community—and that UUCC is irresistible—people are drawn to its energy, its ineffable quality of life, its vitality. Our work and our budgets are now organized to serve five major purposes, which we sometimes refer to as our Incubators for Good. Every budgetary expense or investment of staff time should serve at least one of these visions.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee develops slates of persons to serve as members on the Board of Trustees, the Endowment Board, and its own Nominating Committee.  The committee considers who will best fit each role and interviews each candidate before developing the slate.  The slates are considered for election at the Annual Congregational Meeting, typically held in June of each year.
