Ministerial Search

Ministerial Search

UUCC is currently starting the final year of a three-year interim ministry period (aka a time of ministerial transition) that started August 1, 2024. This interim period is designed to help our congregation move from one settled ministry (i.e. 21 years with Rev. Getty) to the next settled ministry. Our interim minister, Rev. Lisa Bovee Kemper, is assisting us in moving beyond its ministry with Rev. Getty and equipping our congregation for a new, different ministry. During this final year of interim ministry, we are embarking on the settled ministry search process. As of fall 2026, the Ministerial Search Committee has been formed and is gathering. We anticipate welcoming a settled minister to UUCC in fall 2027.

Ministerial Search Committee Formed and Gathering | September 2026

Dear fellow UUCC congregants,

Your Ministerial Search Committee has launched! We are excited to bring our various skills and passions to the task of representing UUCC to the best possible candidates and identifying the best fit for our evolving congregation. We’ve recently met twice online with a representative from UUA who took us through an overview of the nearly 10-month process ahead of us. And on Sunday, August 23 we met in person to begin working together to define and populate the various roles and tasks that will be needed as we seek our next settled minister. In the coming weeks and months, we will invite your input to clarify what we as a congregation are envisioning and ultimately asking of that person who will commit to co-creating and shepherding us into our next chapter.

Stay tuned for updates and event dates for community conversation to engage us all in this quest.

Thank you for your support and respect for this committee as we aim to convey our needs, dreams and passions to worthy candidates and select our next minister.

— Michael Phillips, on behalf of your Ministerial Search Committee

Interim Ministry Extended to Three Years (April 2025)

After careful deliberation, the Board voted to extend Rev. Lisa’s term from two years to three. The reason for us choosing this path is to better position ourselves to hire a settled minister. To be successful, UUCC must first address three major factors: (1) financial uncertainty, (2) increased volunteer needs, and (3) the continuing impact of the national political climate.

Listening Sessions & Interim Ministry Report / Town Hall Meeting (March and April 2025)

Listening Sessions

Thank you to all congregants that joined Rev. Lisa and Transition Team members for a listening session in March and April 2025. These informal sessions serve as part of our collective interim work, offering congregants an opportunity to consider and share their experiences at UUCC and hopes for UUCC’s future. Sessions were held in 2025 on March 20 (during Seasoned Souls), March 23, and April 8.

Interim Ministry Report

On April 6, 2025, we held an Interim Ministry Report / Town Hall Meeting after the 10AM Sunday worship service. Thank you to the dozens and dozens of congregants that engaged with this part of the interim process for the time that you could.

👉 If you missed the town hall, or would like to revisit, the report of what was shared by Rev. Lisa can be found here.

About the Transition Team

Team members: Liam Estell, Mikayla Kurkjian, Tim Lattimer, Susan Jameson

In May 2024, the Board of Trustees and the Interim Search Committee announced Rev. Lisa Bovee Kemper as UUCC’s Interim Minister. Rev. Lisa started at UUCC in August 2024 and will serve as Interim Minister for three years. | Learn more about Rev. Lisa

During her time at UUCC, Rev. Lisa will be working with the Transition Team; a key component of the interim ministry process. It is important to have a specific group that has no other agenda than to assist the Interim Minister and congregation as they seek to use the time between settled ministers effectively. Transition Team members advise and consult with Rev. Lisa on a regular basis, communicate and bear witness to the fact that transition is ultimately work of the congregation, and are available to hear concerns of congregants.

Responsibilities of Transition Team

The Transition Team works with and supports the Interim Minister in leading the work of ministerial transition through:

  • DETERMINING appropriate processes to facilitate congregational reflection regarding present and past happenings (as a means of planning for the future)
  • IDENTIFYING areas of concern that need to be addressed during interim
  • SEEKING congregational input regarding areas of concern, and potential actions being suggested
  • IDENTIFYING individuals/groups within the congregation needing additional attention, or carrying a special concern, and the best person/group to help address their concerns
  • SHARING results of data gathered, and potential agendas developed with key leadership, decision-making groups, committees, and congregation as needed
