Youth, and all parents of youth – I presented our YRUU parents with information at orientation on a number of activities that we are doing this year both within the UUCC community and in the larger community. One of these opportunities is coming up soon.
For those who do not know, at the beginning of 2017 a parent from one of our neighbor congregations – Beth Shalom Congregation near Atholton High School – began a group for Howard County high school students called the Howard County Teen Interfaith Initiative. More than just learning about other religions, this is an opportunity to meet and make real connections with your peers in other faith communities. Much like the congregations in PATH, the young people in the HoCo T.I.I. want to work together to learn more about each other and to bring about positive change in the world. I will try to pass on all information that I get about their gatherings, but I would strongly encourage any young people interested in joining to send an email to their Google address to be added to the email list. Any high school student who lives in, attends school in, or is a member of a congregation in Howard County may join!
The first activity of the year for the Teen Interfaith Initiative is team participation in the Out of the Darkness suicide prevention walk. This takes place at Lake Elkhorn at 1:00 on Sunday, October 8. The teen group will meet up at 12:15 near the registration table and then proceed to the walk together. If you are interested in joining the team please go to the team page here. UUCC youth can plan to walk over to Lake Elkhorn together with Jen, we’ll try to be as close to 12:15 as we can but if the 11:00 service runs over we might leave a little later.
Please let Jen know if you have any questions. I hope to see some of you on the walk. Parents and other adults are also welcome to join!!
