A Note from Rev. Lisa About Ingathering

A Note from Rev. Lisa About Ingathering

Please note that Ingathering will be held Sunday, September 7, not August 24 as was communicated earlier this week.

Why? Well, funny story. You may have heard me joke that the hardest thing about being an interim minister is keeping track of what things are called in different places. Is it the Sunday Services Committee or the Worship Team? Budget Drive, Pledge Campaign, or Annual Canvass? Church, Congregation, Community, Fellowship, Society, or… something else entirely?

It’s funny because it’s true.

Why am I telling you this now? Well, when I was growing up, ingathering was what we called the water communion ceremony. At another congregation I served, ingathering was what they called the new member welcome ceremony. And here at UUCC, ingathering is the first day of the congregational year and it ALSO means that there is a potluck.

So when I wrote “ingathering/water communion” on the worship schedule and we sent out the August worship announcement earlier this week, lots of you got confused. We figured it out in time to course correct, and all is well. So we’ll see you on August 24th for the Water Ceremony and Blessing of the Backpacks and on September 7th for a sermon on James Luther Adams and the Ingathering Potluck after the service!
