JoAnn Tall, a member of the Oglala Lakota tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, led successful protests against uranium mining and nuclear weapons testing on the sacred lands of her people. She also convince her tribe to reject a lucrative offer to use reservation land for a 5000 acre landfill and incinerator and worked to ensure that the people have a voice in approval of major energy development projects in her state.
