The following poem was written and shared by Ali Mark during our UUCC the Vote worship service this past Sunday, October 4th. Thank you to Ali for writing it, delivering it so joyfully on Sunday morning, and for allowing us to share with you all on our website!
Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to go vote!
Because you get a say!
You have brains in your head
You have fingers to write
You can use your voice this day
To guide any fight
You’re on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go.
If you travel the streets
Take a mask and take care
Though for some you will say, “I don’t choose to go there.”
Instead you will order, by web or by mail
A ballot to fill out and send off by snail
Wait hold up, that’s not right
You can’t vote by snail
A ballot box works
For your voting detail
Or else polling lots
Or your regular box
With your vote things can happen
And frequently do
When people turn up,
Yes people like you
When you’re done with your voting
Don’t worry. Don’t stew.
There are still many things
You are able to do
You can write up some cards,
You can text, make a call
You can go hear a speaker
There’s no act that’s too small
You can even start out with the smallest of deeds
And, using your words, plant the smallest of seeds.
With one conversation, one person may learn
Just what voting impacts, how it can upturn.
And now, once you sow
The seeds start to grow
It will start slow, of course,
With just one telling one
But then quickly
The info will travel the sun
From person to person
They’ll share how it works
This great voting process
And all of its perks
And crept up from nothing, just one with some facts
Your whole town will know the great strength of their acts
Can this really succeed?
Yes! It can indeed!
(98 and ¾ percent guaranteed)
YOU CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS
So…
Be you a voter or too young to play
Have a discussion with those in your day
Ask if they’re voting
If they know the way
There’s folks to be rallied
So…get on your way!

Great job! I voted on Friday and received a message from the county Board of Elections saying my ballot had been received.
