UUCC Immigration Task Force
UUCC is involved with several local, state and national groups advocating for humane treatment of those seeking asylum, refugees from environmental and natural disasters, from war, from gang violence and sexual assault, from economic deprivation.
UUCC members, friends and youth support and participate:
At the national level in the work of the UU Service Committee (UUSC) that is focusing on climate-forced displacement and migrant justice along the U.S. southern border and with the UU’s for Social Justice in the National Capital Region (UUSJ) that presents a UU voice in the halls of Congress.
At the state level in the work of the UU Legislative Ministry of Maryland (UULM-MD) Immigration Task Force to advocate for UU values in bills presented in the Maryland House of Delegates and Maryland Senate, particularly bills sponsored by the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus and immigrant groups such as CASA that include the DREAM Act extension, the Maryland Trust (SAFE) Act among others.
At the local level with People Acting Together in Howard (PATH), whose Immigration Task Force is working with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore and our PATH interfaith partners to implement Parish I.D., a program that offers undocumented immigrants some safety when dealing with the police and hospitals.
