This Monday, September 14 at 7:00 PM via Zoom, PATH is standing together with community groups across Howard County to call on County Executive Calvin Ball to LEAD on the Downtown Columbia deal that Jill Christianson wrote about two weeks ago. UUCC members are invited to tune into Monday night’s press conference. By showing up en masse, we put pressure on our county leaders to take action, and we demonstrate our vision for a Howard County where ALL families can live and thrive.
County Executive Ball helped secure the original Downtown Columbia deal that was approved in 2017. This landmark development deal would bring—
- A new Toby’s Dinner Theatre
- Approximately 174 housing units—50% of which would be affordable
- A children’s theatre—the only one within 40 miles of Columbia
- 2 dance studios
- Performing and visual art facilities and classrooms
- A parking garage
- $64 Million in state tax credits to fund this construction
—to the heart of our community. Today, County Executive Ball’s lack of leadership toward sealing this deal will result in the demise of the project and the loss of all the amenities listed above, including the $64 Million in state funding.
This Monday, PATH and other community groups will call on the County Executive to take leadership and pre-file legislation by September 24 to release funding for the project from contingency. (Click here for background info on what this means.)
The press conference will take place via Zoom from 7:00-7:30PM. You don’t need to leave your house. You don’t need to turn on your camera. You don’t need to put on pants. Simply tune into the Zoom press conference and make sure your name and “UUCC” appears as your nametag on Zoom.

See you there!
