Remember: There won’t be any plastics collection this Sunday, March 30, or for the foreseeable future. Upcycled has stopped accepting plastics and will not collect them at Freetown Farm after the end of March.
If you live in Howard County, you can recycle clean bottles, tubs, jugs, jars, and containers (#1, #2 and #5 only) in your curbside collection. NO CLAMSHELLS. (Containers with attached lids.) If you live outside of Howard County, check your county government’s recycling website.
You may continue to support Upcycled by purchasing products such as benches and garden frames (goupcycled.com/store) and by joining their Earth Day Clean-up at Savage Mill Trail (goupcycled.com/earth-day-cleanup-1).

#2 and #5 plastic collection at UUCC is currently on hold as of March 9, 2025. UpCycled, the organization that processes our #2 and #5 plastic waste into products for our community and green spaces, has announced that it is suspending plastic collections at Freetown Farm.
Gail Holm (my wife) has tried to communicate with them to ask whether there is another location where we can bring our plastics or whether we can expect them to resume accepting plastics at Freetown Farm in the future. So far, she has not heard back.
Therefore, it appears that Sunday, March 9, 2025 will be the last day that we will collect plastic waste at OBIC. If we get any better news from UpCycled, we will let your know.
Members of UUCC and of the Christ Methodist Congregation at OBIC have contributed over 900 pounds of plastic to UpCycled since May 2023. Thank you for your concern for the environment!
UUCC’s Climate Team will collect your clean #2 and #5 plastics at OBIC on the 2nd and 5th Sundays and deliver them to the Upcycled plastic collection bin at Freetown Farm.
