Sun, May 2, 11:30am: Forum on The Newest Plastics Scam, Chemical “Recycling”

Guest speaker Pat Hersey will talk about why, after half a century, we are we still talking about recycling when only 9% of it is working. What are the current attempts by industry to rationalize their increased production of plastic, even as we witness the growing harm it is doing on multiple levels?  How did  we get where we are?  Can we as consumers of plastic make a difference, and what do we need to know to move forward effectively? All are welcome to join us this Sunday, May 2, at 11:30am (EDT) to discuss and explore.

Bio

Pat Hersey is the Founder of Less Plastic Please, a grassroots organization with the mission to reduce single-use plastic in Howard County through education and legislation. Over the last three years, the organization was honored with the Howard County Green Leadership Award in 2019 and 2020, as well as the HHCA Activist Award in 2019. Recognized as an “Eco-Warrior” in HER Magazine, Less Plastic Please continues to fight the multiple issues interwoven in the plastic pollution crisis.  Since plastic is a major driver of the climate crisis, Less Plastic Please successfully worked with other environmental groups to have the Columbia Association declare a Climate Emergency. Less Plastic Please championed the Howard County Bag Fee Bill, which was implemented in October 2020.
