Memorial Day Weekend Camping Trip

Memorial Day Weekend Camping Trip

For the past few decades, a group from UUCC has spent Memorial Day weekend at Rocky Gap State Park in western, Maryland (125 miles / 2.5 hours from our Owen Brown Interfaith Center).

This year, in 2024, 50 or socongregants went camping, with community building activities lovingly planned for the weekend by Lee GelwicksPrabhas Pokharel, and Colette Gelwicks. Activities included a hike, potluck, art activities (including a service project of decorating wood hearts will be made into magnets to hand out as gifts at this October’s HoCo Pride), worship service, and more.

It downpoured and the children ran in the rain and got very muddy; they enjoyed making mud pies and trying to trick their parents into muddy embraces. Sunday night ended with a very powerful thunderstorm that took out the power in the whole campground, but everyone remained safe as UUCCers with cabins opened their doors to any of our tent campers who needed a place to get dry. Thank you to Colette for sharing  photos, some of which you can check out below.

We hope to see you Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 10am for our “Camping as a Spiritual Practice” worship service where you’ll hear way more about our time camping together, and perhaps decide this trip is for you next year!
