The Religious Education (RE) Ministry is a cooperative program of the entire congregation. There are many ways to be involved at all levels of the program and all levels of time and commitment!
Many of our adult members and parents take volunteer roles in our program for children and youth at some time. We find the practice of teaching, in and of itself, to be a valued experience of spiritual, intellectual, and social growth in our community. Teaching Religious Education is a path to learning and to deepening not only your own religious understanding, it also works to establish relationships in our congregational community across ages, generations and social groups.
Helping with religious education classes for children or youth means a commitment to be in a classroom two or three times a month. You can choose to be a lead teacher, responsible for reading through lessons and being prepared to tell a story or lead an activity with the children. Assistants can also help with lesson preparation or act as the second adult to help maintain a positive atmosphere in our learning groups.
Religious Education Committees, one for Adults, one for Children and Youth, help set religious education policy, help recruit teachers, and help run multigenerational events around faith development.
Whether teaching or helping in a non-teaching support role, or stepping up to an Religious Education Committee leadership role, it is our Religious Education volunteers who enable our congregation to provide this high-quality ministry to children and youth!
In Adult Religious Education, volunteers plan for and lead our adult classes and forums. The Adult Religious Education Committee serves as an advisory board and support staff to the UUCC staff members who administer the program. Here again, without the voluntary participation and energy of our members, we could not provide these opportunities for learning and growth. And our leaders and participants all grow and learn through the process of working together in Religious Education.
If you have an interest in providing opportunities for all in this community to learn and grow in mind and spirit, we’d love to have your participation in UUCC Religious Education!
