Elfreth, Guzzone, and Rigby Visit UUCC & Advocacy Hour

Congressional candidate Sarah Elfreth, state delegate Pam Guzzone and county councilwoman Christiana Rigby were surprise visitors this past Sunday for our climate justice worship service!

After the service, we asked if they could speak briefly (and “non-partisanly”) at our climate justice advocacy hour about the importance of voting, organizing others to vote, and how to best advocate with elected officials. All three accepted and spoke briefly with the 80 or so congregants gathered for coffee and advocacy.

After they left, UUCC congregant Tim Lattimer spoke about the effectiveness of relational organizing when doing advocacy and action, and gave some hints on how to do it in a fun and natural way.

UUCC congregant Ken Rock spoke about UU the Vote, and participants wrote non-partisan Get Out the Vote postcards for Georgia. Contact krockster@yahoo.com if you want to participate in the next postcard campaign.

UUCC congregant Al Holm (holm-albert@yahoo.com) then described advocacy and actions available with PATH (People Acting Together in Howard), and UUCC was well represented at the PATH event two days later. The next scheduled PATH actions are Tuesday, October 22 on Zoom and Sunday, November 17, which will be a major in-person action at Wilde Lake Interfaith Center.

Finally, UUCC congregant Phil Webster described how to get engaged with both UUSJ (UUs for Social Justice) and UULM-MD (UU Legislative Ministry-Maryland). UULM-MD kicks into high gear in January 2025 when the Maryland General Assembly is in session.   Contact phil.webster@me.com if you want to help advocate about Maryland issues.
