Sun, Jan 16, 11:30am: Forum on Social Justice Impacts of the Climate Crisis

The climate crisis disproportionately adversely affects the poor and the less powerful, while it is disproportionately caused by the rich and powerful. In 2022, the UUCC Climate Crisis Team will focus the first half of 2022 on Climate Justice * and those affected, and the second half on the causes.

We are currently considering sponsoring one theme/topic per month: projects, forums and/or actions which support those who are most affected by climate change. Current candidate topics are YouthImmigration, Racial Justice, Women & Girls,  and Legislative Advocacy. If you have ideas of how we might best support any of these (or other) issues, please email We’re in this work together!

Our Kick-off Zoom Forum will be this Sunday, January 16, 2022 at 11:30am (EDT).

The Forum will begin with a quick overview about our proposed first half topics for Climate Justice (described above). In the Q&A, you can determine whether you’d like to help develop, participate or lead any of the Actions or Forums that interest you.

In the second half of the Forum, we’ll provide an overview of upcoming UULM-MD (UU Legislative Ministry of Maryland) activities, and we’ll have a special video by Nina Cardin about the ground-breaking Maryland Environmental Human Rights bill. We hope you will join us!

* Environmental justice (EJ): Embraces the principle that all people and communities have a right to equal protection and equal enforcement of environmental laws and regulations. Climate justice (CJ): Insists on a shift from a discourse on greenhouse gases and melting ice caps into a civil rights movement with the people and communities most vulnerable to climate impacts at its heart.
