Spirit Play Taking It Home Nov. 11th

This week, our Spirit Play children learned the story of And Tango Makes Three. It’s a wonderful (and TRUE) story about two boy penguins who fall in love and raise a baby penguin.

This book received banned book requests every year, and since it was published has been on the list of top banned books. You might want to consider purchasing a copy to have at home, to support the author and allow your money to speak for your thoughts about requests to ban books.

Have a discussion with your children about what it means for a school or library to receive a request for a book to be banned. Why would those types of requests go against our Unitarian Universalist values? And if you aren’t aware of Banned Books Week, which happens each fall in September. To learn more about Banned Books Week, you can read about it here: https://bannedbooksweek.org/about/

My family commits to purchasing one of the most popular banned books each year. This year we purchased and read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. What can your family do to fight censorship?
