Summer Acts of Kindness

Summer Acts of Kindness

Hello RE Families,

Our summer filled with random acts of kindness continues! We have been busy downstairs learning about the many ways in which we can extend kindness to others. I’m sure it comes as no surprise that our UUCC kids are excelling in this particular art form.

Two weeks ago, we read the book Our Tree Named Steve by Alan Zweibel. This book tells the poignant tale of how a tree named Steve became a true member of a family. Over the years, Steve shared his gifts by being a clothes dryer, hammock hanger, camping venue and much more.  Our kids then had a wonderful, messy time making bird seed cakes to be taken home and hung in their own trees.

Last Sunday, we read the book, Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun by Maria Dismondy. This story encourages kids to always do the right thing even when they are met with challenging people. We then challenged our kids to make positive signs to be help up when in traffic jams. I was delighted to see the kind words and pictures that poured out of our smallest congregants. Perhaps you will see one of their signs when you are met with your next traffic jam.

Finally, our kindness bulletin board continues to fill up with hearts! Please keep encouraging the kids to record their acts of kindness and add them to the board! We are aiming for 100 hearts by the end of summer.

In Community,

Kelli
