For this Sunday’s Winter Wonder worship service, your Chalice Choir will perform a beautiful anthem composed by Felix Mendelssohn. Abschied vom Walde, or “Farewell to the Forest”, is a bucolic hymn-like setting of a poem by J. von Eichendorff, written in strophic form. The verses describe the need to move through life’s passages, while maintaining an emotional connection to nature and the Earth. As a congregation, we will sing together the lovely and familiar round Dona Nobis Pacem. For the meditation and offering, I will offer a winter work by George Winston from his album “December”, and a contemporary winter solstice tune.
