For this Sunday’s Winter Wonder worship service, your Chalice Choir will perform a beautiful anthem composed by Felix Mendelssohn. Abschied vom Walde, or “Farewell to the Forest”, is a bucolic hymn-like setting of a poem by J. von Eichendorff, written in strophic form. The verses describe the need to move through life’s passages, while maintaining an emotional connection to nature and the Earth. As a congregation, we will sing together the lovely and familiar round Dona Nobis Pacem. For the meditation and offering, I will offer a winter work by George Winston from his album “December”, and a contemporary winter solstice tune.
Don’t forget the Chalice Concert this Saturday, December 2, at 7PM with singer-baritone Byron Jones in a program titled The American Songbook, Re-Envisioned. This unique recital features wonderful new 20th and 21st century works by BIPOC and LGBTQ+ composers. Come out and show your support for the important work of enlarging the classical canon of works written for voice. Tickets available at the door the evening of the concert or through Realm. In community,
