During Worship Service on Sunday, May 19, Margaret LaFon on Behalf of the CORE Team recognized the Pledge drive and everyone who supports it. Read the recognition below!
My name is Margaret LaFon, I use the pronouns she/hers, and I’m speaking on behalf of UUCC’s CORE Team—that stands for Connecting with Others and Recognizing Engagement.
It is with great pleasure that I recognize a very special group of people … people who helped with UUCC’s annual budget drive.
Each spring, UUCC holds an annual budget drive, or pledge drive, to invite every person in the congregation to consider their investment and ownership of this community. We collect financial commitments, or pledges, from you: an amount of money you promise to give over the course of the next fiscal year. This is how we fund the work we do together as a congregation—to pay the staff, maintain the building, fund the congregation’s ministries—and your pledges are how we set our budget for the next year.
While many of us feel comfortable asking others for some things, most of us are terrified of asking for money. I can’t remember when I last did it. But every year, our pledge drive team lovingly asks each of us to invest our treasure for the continuing well-being of our congregation, and to strengthen and sustain our commitment to each other, our faith community, and our Unitarian Universalist values.
Good news! Even though the pledge drive is officially over now, we are still collecting pledges. And we still need your pledges as we finalize our budget for the coming year.
So today, we recognize these special people. If you are here in the room, please stand or raise your hand when your name is called.
Thank you…
- Pledge team co-chairs: Dori Schatell and Tim Lattimer.
- Pledge party hosts: Laurie and Alan Coltri, Colette and Lee Gelwicks, Suzanne and Bob Henig, Valerie and Ted Nolan, Mary Rodgers and Phil Webster.
- People who made personal calls to collect pledges: Sara Davidson, Robin Hessey, Valerie Hsu, Tim Lattimer, Lisa Marini, Kevin Mercer.
- Staff member Hannah Nelson who supported the budget drive with myriad behind-the-scenes tasks.
- And Stewardship Council members who offered perspective and who champion stewardship in all its many forms, year-round.
Thank you again to this great team!
