Currents 🌊 is a UUCC communication space as of May 2025—featuring reflections, deeper dives into worship themes, narrative updates from staff and others, as well as insights into our shared life at UUCC.

Good rainy afternoon, everybody!
As you likely know through Tapestry or elsewhere, the UUA’s General Assembly is coming up this June 18-22. General Assembly happens every year in June and is hosted in a different city in the United States each time. This year it’s taking place in Baltimore, which is as close as it’s going to get for us here at UUCC. Life is busy, and yet if it’s possible, I want to invite and encourage you all to attend and participate, in-person or virtually. Prices do go up this week; register by Thursday, May 15 to save some money if you plan on going. If money is holding you back, connect with Rev. Lisa so we can get you registered.
Attending and participating in General Assembly is a way to broaden your scope and deepen your sense of Unitarian Universalism and its place in the world. It also gives you a fuller sense of who is Unitarian Universalist beyond congregants we experience each week in our UUCC congregation. It feels powerful and meaningful to witness that many Unitarian Universalists from all of those congregations from all around together in one space. It’s a lot of people; a lot of people with shared values and a commitment to having those values live in and through us as we move through the world and encounter the people in it.
When I attend General Assembly I always end up meeting new people, strengthening connections with people I already know, and having engaging and unexpected spiritual conversations that spark new questions and/or ideas. I love sifting through the General Assembly schedule to see what workshops and worship services pop out for me, and seeing who the Ware Lecture speaker will be (it’s Imara Jones this year!) I also enjoy strolling around the tables in the exhibit hall alone or with a buddy when I need some downtime. This year I am also looking forward to watching Rev. Paige Getty (UUCC’s former senior minister) co-lead opening worship on Wednesday, June 18th with Rev. Dr. Rebekah Savage from the UU Congregation of Rockville.
We have a good group of people already registered to attend GA — most of our UUCC staff, as well as several UUCC members, many of whom will serve as delegates. If you’re thinking about attending General Assembly, I encourage you to give it a try this year. Or chat about it more with me or another staff member if you’re curious. Because if you can’t attend this year, there is always next year… or the next. 💛
With love,
Sara (they/she)
P.S. I invite you to check out photos and reflections from General Assembly 2023 in Pittsburgh to get a fuller sense of the experience.
