UUCC Sides with CAIR

UUCC Sides with CAIR

UUCC is proud to decry Islamophobia in Howard County and stand with our ally in seeking a more just world, CAIR. We firmly oppose any and all attempts to limit the participation of anyone from our diverse community in our governance boards, commissions, and other committees. Islamophobia and other oppressions like racism, sexism, trans- and homophobia, anti-Semitism and other religious intolerances are unacceptable in our public spaces and violate the Principles which Unitarian Universalists covenant to uphold, including the First, respecting the inherent worth and dignity of every person; the Second, justice, equity, and compassion in human relations; and the Fifth, the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process in our society.

* Note: At its August meeting, the Board of Trustees voted to sign onto a letter from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) opposing Islamophobic attacks on Howard County Muslims pursuing public service.

We can make stronger statements if the entire Congregation had participated in this decision. Speaking in the name of UUCC without this participation is not democracy in action.

So proud that the duly, democratically elected Board, in compliance with our bylaws, also duly and democratically enacted, was able to quickly and unanimously endorse the letter of our ally CAIR.
