UUCC the Vote: Vote Forward Engagement Opportunity

Vote Forward is an effective Get Out the Vote (GOTV) activity that we can all do from the safety of our own homes. And it’s easy! You simply download and print prepared letters, then complete and send them to voters in states that are likely to have the most impact in the 2020 election. The letters go to traditionally under-represented registered voters, encouraging them to vote in this critical election.

Vote Forward started an initiative for the 2020 election called the Big Send. The goal is to write 10,000,000 letters this election cycle, and they have already recorded 2,500,000 letters written! The letter writing campaigns are focused on twelve states that meet at least two of the following three criteria:

  1. It is a top presidential swing state.
  2. The state has a competitive Senate race.
  3. There are key state legislature seats up for election, which will impact redistricting following the 2020 census.

The twelve states that meet these criteria are Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin. You can learn more about the letter writing campaigns for each state at https://votefwd.org/.

Vote Forward has determined that the best time to send the letters for the greatest impact is October 27, one week before Election Day. As we can’t do door to door canvassing for GOTV (at least not yet) this is like banking door knocks in advance. If you write one letter a day between now and October 27 you can easily write 100 letters! They take about two minutes each to prepare, plus an envelope and stamp. If you would like to try it, please contact Ken Rock at uuccthevote@gmail.com.

Join UUCC the Vote in this important activity. The values we hold dear as Unitarian Universalists are at stake in this election, and every action we take helps make sure our voices are heard.

Thank you for everything you do!
