UUCC CLIMATE CHANGE team needs YOU! Paige’s sermon this week “Remember the Earth” and the Green Minute made clear how urgent it is to ACT now to save our planet. Here are just a few ways you can join the efforts of the UUCC Climate Change (2U4C) team. More details are on our 2U4C home page.
We are wrapping up our Spring campaign enabling congregants to easily convert their homes to RENEWABLE ENERGY. This is a high “Return on Investment” project! For less than one hour of investment, you can reduce YOUR HOUSEHOLD’s carbon emissions by as much as 5-10 TONS every year! BGE has numerous wind and solar options. It is easy to switch. UUCC Climate Change team has partnered with Neighborhood Sun, who will give members a rate 5% lower than BGE’s regular rate as well as a bonus of $50 to UUCC. Neighborhood Sun is a Maryland company employing Marylanders and keeping Maryland solar credits in Maryland! Please commit to making the switch by the end of May. Every day you delay means more carbon emissions. Contact https://uucolumbia.net/climate-change-action-team-neighsun/ or les.gesell@verizon.net
Our Summer theme is Food and Food Waste. We can significantly reduce greenhouse gases through our food choices, especially by eating a plant rich diet and the reducing the amount of food we waste. We are looking for people and ideas to build a campaign around this theme. Please contact gailholm@gmail.com.
Meanwhile, we are kicking off with Wasted! The Story of Food Waste (with Anthony Bourdain & Mario Batali) at OBIC in Sanctuary C after the second service on May 19. Light lunch will be available.
Also for the June 7th First Friday, the 2U4C team will staff a tasting table of member made vegetarian fare and accompanying recipes. If you would like to share your favorite vegetarian or vegan dish (and recipe), please contact chriscrandell1@gmail.com.
Additionally, we plan to engage and support our Youth, by work periodically with RE classes and Children’s Chapel. If you have ideas or would like to help, contact DBoogaard@outlookcom. Beyond RE, we have provided space in OBIC for the Sunrise Movement to hold a town hall for youth on the GREEN NEW DEAL this Saturday, May 4 at 2 PM. Space is limited so please register at https://www.sunrisemovement.org/tour.
What’s Next? What should our theme be for the Fall? If you have ideas and energy to help save the planet, or would like to join the 2U4C distribution list, please contact 2U4CSteering@googlegroups.com
