What is UUMANE?

UUMANE (UU Mid-Atlantic Network for the Environment) is an organization established in May 2023 by 100+ members from 10+ UU congregations in Maryland, DC, and Virginia as a way to increase our influence and help each other to promote ways to improve the environment and support environmental justice.

At our first meeting, attendees decided on four focus areas:

  1. advocacy and lobbying
  2. plant-based food policy
  3. environmental justice
  4. confronting planetary overshoot

If you are interested in joining any of these UUMANE focus groups, connect with UUCC member Ed Gaddy (edward.gaddy@gmail.com) or Chris Crandell (chriscrandell1@gmail.com). We would love your input!

At our most recent meeting, each focus group reported on their achievements, and the group heard from Andrew Batcher, Social Justice Coordinator, Potomac Partnership about our next area-wide/nation-wide meeting, the UUA-sponsored UU Climate Revival, to be held September 28-29 this year.

More information about the UU Climate Revival will be provided as the details are confirmed, and if you’d like to help with the planning of this event, please contact climateaction@uucolumbia.net.

We hope to see you all at the Revival in September!
