Greetings from West Virginia!
We’re at the midpoint of our service trip with Big Creek People in Action in McDowell County, West Virginia, and our UUCC teens are hitting their stride.
So far this week, we’ve worked on three different porches to ensure that senior homeowners are able to safely and accessibly enter their own homes. We’ve constructed stairs, installed metal roofing, built bannisters and railings, dug post holes, and reinforced ramps. We’ve all stayed within our personal daily quotas of one injury per day, with incidents limited to blisters, bruises, and bee stings.

Outside of work, we’ve enjoyed dinners we’ve cooked for each other, played countless board games and rounds of hide-and-seek, and visited the nearby town of Iaeger for a live music performance. Tonight, we’ll receive a history tour and we’ll end the day with a bonfire.
Thank you all for your support and for the warm send-off during worship this past Sunday. We look forward to sharing stories, pictures, and reflections from our trip with you, UUCC, on Sunday, September 2 during the worship service!
In the meantime, some more photos for you all (plus one short, fun dancing video):
