YRUU Summer Schedule

YRUU Summer Schedule

Hey guys! It’s been a wild spring for all of us, and thank you all for hanging in there as we as a community have adjusted to our pandemic reality. Congratulations on making it through a semester of virtual learning! And I’m sorry that for many of you, your summer looks drastically different from what you expected, as camps are cancelled and jobs are hard to find.

Here’s all you need to know for YRUU this summer.

We’re taking a short break.

Our regularly-scheduled Sunday afternoon check-ins are on hiatus for a little while.

We’re diving into ethics.

Later this month, we’re starting a 6-week discussion series on the NBC show The Good Place. Seasons 1-3 are currently available on Netflix, and for this summer discussion series, we’ll only be looking at seasons 1 and 2.

The Good Place was created by Michael Schur (producer of The Office, co-creator of Parks and Recreation), and is set in a fantasy afterlife. In this version of the afterlife, upon death, all humans are assigned a numerical score that is the sum of the positive and negative values of their actions on earth. That final score determines whether a human ends up in the good place or the bad place.

It’s a fun show with memorable characters, and hidden in its zany plot are forays into ethical and philosophical discussions on competing conceptions of what it means to be good, and what it means to be human.

We’ll meet on Zoom at 1pm on the following Wednesdays:

  • July 29
  • August 5
  • August 12
  • August 19
  • September 2
  • September 6

We’re organizing for youth representation.

In the meantime, a core team of youth at UUCC is actively organizing to win youth representation on the UUCC Board of Trustees. The core team has been strategizing and researching how youth representation could work at UUCC, and this summer and moving into the fall, the group will be focused on listening to you and hearing what you think.

We’ll play some games.

Mark your calendars! We’ve got a YRUU summer game night scheduled for Tuesday, August 11 at 6pm.

We’ll be back in the fall.

Details and schedule TBD. Have a great summer!
